Malta Class

Welcome to Malta class!

For this half term, Malta and Galapagos will be taught together.

Malta Class is a class of Year 3 children and will be taught by Miss Chloe Fuller supported by Mrs Dell.

In the Autumn Term, our topics will be ‘Stone age to Iron age’ and ‘Extreme Earth’. We will be finding out about life in both the Stone age and Iron age periods. We will then be using comparative language to compare these historical periods. We will learn to sequence events or artefacts and where Stone age and Iron age come in a chronological timeline of events. In our ‘Extreme Earth’ topic, we will be finding out about the earth under our feet by describing and understanding key elements of physical geography, such as the earth’s surface. We will then be exploring the earth further by finding about volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis and tornados. We will consider the impact these have on people’s lives and investigate what causes them to happen as well as the overall effect they can have.

To start our Spring Term, we will be finding out about extreme environments in our ‘Water: Crazy Climates’ topic.  We shall make comparisons between familiar aspects of physical geography and study extreme and diverse places as well as understand the water cycle. Finally, we must explore how these environments are formed and how they affect the people living near them. After half-term, we will be studying ‘Ancient Greeks’ where we will be looking at the ancient civilization and making comparisons with our life today. We can investigate cultural differences and look at the chronology of the period.

As the Summer Term arrives, our topic ‘Somewhere to Settle’ will see us learn more about the human geography around us. We will see why the Isle of Wight is a very special place to live and compare the island to other settlements around the world. In our final topic of the year, Galapagos Class must be on best behaviour! ‘Crime and Punishment’ is our topic. We will be learning about different sorts of crimes that were committed in different time periods and how they were dealt with according to the laws of the time.
